Terrain vibration measurement questions

What did the non-contact terrain experiment measure?

The published laboratory setup measured prepared beds of sand and glass beads. It first mapped the surface in geometry mode, then recorded vibration across 128 optical positions without attaching sensors. Horizontal and vertical excitation were used to observe how waves propagated through the granular material.

Which vibration signatures did the experiment capture?

The sand bed produced a strong response near 200 Hz. The glass-bead tests captured main peaks near 100, 210 and 310 Hz, plus setup-related motion near 10 Hz. Together they document the wave-field response of the reported specimens, excitation and boundary conditions.

How does the laboratory experiment support field investigations?

The experiment demonstrates non-contact wave-field measurement on prepared granular beds. A field programme can combine the optical maps with calibrated excitation, reference sensors, ground truth and qualified geotechnical interpretation to evaluate bearing capacity, design parameters, seismic response and structural behaviour.

What should a field feasibility plan define?

Define the material and surface condition, measurement distance, line of sight, excitation or ambient source, frequency and motion range, spatial coverage, reference sensors, environmental controls and required uncertainty. The plan should also state how optical measurements will be correlated with geotechnical or structural evidence.
