DOLL velocity-range questions

What does DOLL change in Q-series vibrometry?

DOLL is a digital optical locked-loop processing mode that extends the specified array velocity range from a ±15.5 mm/s baseband value to as much as ±155 mm/s in supported Q-series configurations. The “10×” statement refers to this velocity-range comparison, not a tenfold improvement in every performance metric.

Does the extended velocity range apply equally at every frequency and signal condition?

No. Trackable velocity depends on frequency, acceleration, optical return, signal-to-noise ratio, sampling and the selected loop or filter settings. The operating point must fall inside the validated amplitude–frequency envelope, so a prospective test should be checked against expected velocity and acceleration rather than velocity alone.

What does the reported 63 g boundary mean?

It is presented as an acceleration boundary observed in the documented performance evaluation, not as a universal structural limit or a human-safety rating. Comparisons with crashes or injury are not measurement specifications and should not be used for test safety decisions.

What should be defined before a high-speed vibration test?

Define expected velocity and acceleration spectra, frequency range, surface return, stand-off and angle, required channels, sampling and anti-aliasing, synchronization, uncertainty and a reference or acceptance method. The applicable Q-series configuration and DOLL settings should then be confirmed for that envelope.
