A New Era of Automation in Forestry and Agriculture
The AGRARSENSE project, powered by Ommatidia, marks a new milestone in automation and sustainability across forestry and agriculture.
By combining advanced LiDAR technology with intelligent automation, the project aims to improve safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility in operations such as planting, harvesting, and crop monitoring.
Through dynamic 3D imaging in harsh outdoor conditions, Ommatidia brings unmatched precision and reliability to automated systems in the primary sector.

Ommatidia’s Role in the AGRARSENSE Project
The project’s kick-off meeting gathered key leaders in the automation and agri-tech industries.
Among them was Gregory Pandraud, VP of Research at Ommatidia, who highlighted the project’s potential to reshape modern agriculture.
He noted that LiDAR’s ability to deliver precise, real-time 3D data will be essential for boosting efficiency and achieving the sustainability goals of AGRARSENSE.
The Ommatidia team is proud to contribute to this European initiative, applying its expertise in Laser Radar systems to advance both automation and environmental care.

Sustainable Forestry and Agriculture Through LiDAR Technology
Reducing Environmental Impact
Ommatidia and AGRARSENSE bring new tools to reduce the environmental footprint of human activity in the primary sector.
In forestry, LiDAR technology helps:
-
Measure tree density, canopy structure, and biomass for sustainable harvesting.
-
Monitor reforestation efforts and vegetation changes over time.
-
Support forest health and resilience through precise 3D data.
In agriculture, LiDAR enables:
-
Precision mapping for improved crop and soil monitoring.
-
Optimized irrigation and water use efficiency.
-
Higher yields with reduced resource waste.
By improving how natural resources are measured and managed, Ommatidia and AGRARSENSE promote more eco-efficient and sustainable practices.
Enhancing Safety with Real-Time Terrain Awareness
Beyond sustainability, Ommatidia and AGRARSENSE also enhance workplace safety in forestry and farming.
LiDAR systems generate real-time topographical data to detect potential hazards such as:
-
Steep or unstable terrain
-
Water bodies and uneven ground
-
Machinery operation risks in challenging conditions
This information helps prevent accidents, supports better planning, and creates a safer working environment for industry professionals.
Looking Ahead: Smart, Safe, and Sustainable Growth
By integrating LiDAR and automation, Ommatidia and AGRARSENSE are transforming how natural resources are managed.
This collaboration drives progress toward a more efficient, sustainable, and data-driven primary sector.
At Ommatidia, we are excited to see how these innovations will:
-
Improve the livelihoods of those working in forestry and agriculture.
-
Promote environmental stewardship and responsible land use.
-
Deliver lasting benefits for communities and future generations.
With technology and sustainability working hand in hand, Ommatidia and AGRARSENSE truly boost automation and sustainability—paving the way for a smarter, greener future.
Overall, the use of LiDAR in the primary sector has the potential to contribute to a more efficient, sustainable, and safe use of natural resources. At Ommatidia, we are excited about the transformative potential of this technology and look forward to seeing its positive impact on the industry. By combining innovation with sustainability, LiDAR is paving the way for a new era in forestry and agriculture, where technology empowers professionals to make better decisions for the planet and future generations. We expect that AGRARSENSE will hence lead to improved livelihoods for people working in forestry, agriculture and related industries, as well as a better quality of life for communities that depend on them.
